Vancouver Island: Nanaimo to Comox, B.C.

Wednesday, October 22, 2014
We traveled on the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo. Then, we drove  to Comox where my friend Isobel lives. Isobel and my mom were colleagues when Mom taught "on the island".

Isobel drove us to Miracle Beach Provincial Park. En route, she showed us two areas where Trumpeter Swans winter. Since the 1960's, she has helped track the number of Trumpeter Swans that winter in the Comox Valley.

The following photos are from our return trip to meet the ferry in Nanaimo.
Deep Bay reminded us of "home".

We drove through Qualicum, where Jonathan's parents stayed a few years ago. Our next stop was Coomb's Country Market. It is known for "Goats On The Roof". The goats must be on holiday from rooftop maintenance. The one goat we spotted was in a pasture next to the Italian restaurant down the lane from the market.

Next, we visited Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park. We hiked a trail that led around the falls and river. All the rain from the island was there. We have experienced more rain during our one week stay in B.C. than we experienced in our previous three months travel. We are not dismayed! Mother Nature continues to bless us with a good balance of hiking and indoor activities.

  1. The Island has so much to offer. Well worth a trip back to explore some more. Glad you enjoyed it too. The goats must be missing the crazy crowds of summer and are off sulking somewhere.
