Carlsbad Caverns National Park

Sunday, February 8, 2015

Here, Jonathan and I began our descent into Carlsbad Cave. We were underground for three hours. Jonathan was calm throughout the adventure. By the last half hour, I was anxious to return to the sunlight!
                                                             Good bye to the light!

                                                                path leading to darkness

The descent to the main level of the cave took us an hour and a half.  One path led us to an area with restrooms, restaurant, gift store, and seating areas.  We ate our packed lunch at a nearby table.

pool at the base of a giant stalagmite

                                                                    Rock of Ages

We rode the elevator to return above ground.

  1. Very cool! Looks like a great attraction given the foot paths...accessible even?!

    1. The loop trail around the Big Room is generally even, and some sections are wheel-chair accessible.

  2. You will have seen so many different caves on this trip... They dispel the impression that some may have that they are all dark and damp and cramped.
