From Vancouver, Canada to Washington, U.S.A.

Saturday, November 1st, 2014

Setting off firecrackers Halloween Eve is a Vancouver tradition for some revellers. Snap, Crackle and Pop accompanied our drive from the restaurant, then was the soundscape at our campground into the late hours. Here's some roadside evidence the next morning, two blocks from our campground.

You may try to run from history...

It was a twenty minute wait for our turn. The custom's officer was visibly surprised by the length of time we planned to spend in the states and our plan for financing our trip. He sent us for a secondary inspection. We waited twenty minutes inside the custom's office. We filled a declaration form and answered similar questions. Then, our truck and trailer were inspected and we were given the green light.

Along Highway 101 in Washington, we drove by what we now know are the Gospodor Monuments. J and I looked at each other and said "what was that?"

We drove by lots of election posters. The most common one was for Art Robinson running for Congress. His campaign team thoroughly covered Route 5 and Route 199 in Oregon. However, Art Robinson lost to an incumbent, Peter DeFazio, who we do not remember seeing any signs for in our travels.
We spent our first evening on the Pacific Coast at the Longview North/Mount St. Helens KOA, near Castle Rock in Washington.

Did the year go back as well as the hour on our clocks?
           J. took this picture, Sunday morning, at the R&D Petroleum in Castle Rock.
