The Castro: San Francisco, California

Tuesday, November 18th, 2014
Jonathan and I went on a guided walking tour in the Castro District of San Francisco.

    Castro Street: The red sign in the distance is Castro Theatre, a historic landmark.

That's our guide next to the tree. We are standing close to the building where Harvey Milk lived.  He was harassed by the owner of a liquor store across the street. The store is now Swirl, a wine bar.

 When  *Alfred Clarke Mansion* was built, it was surrounded by farmland, far from "fashionable society". According to our guide, Clarke's wife refused to move into the home.
