Stay True To Your Roots: Crescent City, California

Thursday, November 6, 2014
Today, rain kept us away from the forests. We found an art gallery, owned and curated by Barbara Burke. It is a wonderful space, full of all kinds of treasures. We spoke at length with Barbara about our trip, her travels (she visited Nova Scotia), American politics, the recent election...
A lovely person so engaged in her community, and so passionate about people and art...
During our travels, we have been blessed with friendly, kind people. At the beach, we chatted with two ladies that took our photo, another lady stopped her car to give me some french fries to feed the squirrels (I declined!), the painter at the lighthouse stopped his work to ensure his dog "trained to search" didn't lick us, then he pointed out a spot to view a lighthouse in the distance, a hiker on the trail greeted us and asked where we were from, then we shared the trail for a time chatting about our trip, her life in California, politics, social issues... a shopper in the wine section of the grocery store asked me if I was a wine connoisseur and that started another wonderful conversation, our campsite neighbour who knocked on our door (that's a first!) and gave Jonathan a Skylark maintenance suggestion...

Then, Jonathan and I discovered "Grocery Outlet: Bargain Market". The concept is explained on the 1st page: https://groceryoutlet.com  We found some gems: Dubliner cheese, olives stuffed with blue cheese, sweet potato hummus, Smoked Double Porter beer...

If creativity from the graphics & the messaging could be extended to a rethink about the packaging...
