Wednesday, December 17, 2014

Today, we explored Santa Paula, a fifteen minute drive from our campground.

The guide at the Museum of Ventura County gave us complimentary tickets to visit the Agriculture Museum because it was closed yesterday.  The following photos are from our visit.

The lemon crate label photos and the lemon ads are from the foyer in the washroom area.

This truck is in the entrance area of the museum. The front desk is on the left and a gift store is on the right.

The farmers did not take these tractors into the fields to cultivate because it would have crushed the crops and compressed the soil.

During our visit, a large group of children on a school trip learned about farming, pollination, the water cycle... in stations that were set up in different areas of the museum. The instructor stayed at his/her station and the children in small groups took turns at each station. Several times, I found myself listening in. The instructors were so lively, so interested in his/her topic and so responsive to the students' inquiries.

In 1880, this water wagon was used on the Hartman Ranch on Pine Mountain. The ranch is at an elevation of 4, 900 feet.

As I looking at each of the interior details, one of the students commented "it looks like a sandwich" !

There is more outside!

This monument is in a plaza next to the museum.
