Painted Canyon

Saturday, January 10

                                                                          Roadrunner

We drove along a dirt road to the Painted Canyon trailhead.  Our road ended in a parking lot.

There are several ladders to climb. This one was my least favourite. Fortunately,  this was the only climb that intimidated me. The other climbs were not as steep.

                                                                       Ocotillo

This is the style of markers on this trail.

                                                                    Palo Verde tree

Thousands of cairns mark each hiker's journey along the trail.

During this section of our hike, we fully understood why this trail is called "Painted Canyon".
So many colours and textures in the rocks! Beautiful.

Jonathan climbed down first and told me about these broken rungs. We checked the bolts. They looked secure. Still scooting down was more reassuring!

  1. That looked like a fun hike! The ladders, even the broken ones, are luxury compared to just a rope.
